CURRICULUM

  1. transdisciplinary themes

The six transdisciplinary themes provide a basis for discussion and integration of the PYP scope and sequences and DepEd’s MATATAG Curriculum into the programme of inquiry. They scaffold the development and demonstration of international mindedness and engage students with issues of personal, local, national, and global significance.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) recognizes the growing complexity of the world learners face, particularly in the context of VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity). In response to this, the IB updated its transdisciplinary themes in 2024 to better prepare students for such a world. These updated descriptors aim to equip learners with the skills, knowledge, and dispositions necessary to thrive in an unpredictable and ever-changing global environment.

Here are some key adjustments likely reflected in the new descriptors of the transdisciplinary themes.

2. Program of Inquiry

The Programme of Inquiry is a long-term framework that offers students opportunities to refine their theories, address misconceptions, and deepen their understanding. By revisiting transdisciplinary themes throughout their early and primary years (Pre-nursery to Grade 6), students build on prior knowledge and extend their learning each year.
