action with impact

  1. taking action

Action, central to student agency, is a vital part of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and its goal of fostering international mindedness. By engaging in both individual and collective action, students learn the responsibilities of being internationally- minded and recognize the value of collaborating toward a common goal. When students identify meaningful actions they can take to make a difference, they begin to see themselves as capable, empowered, and active agents of change.

2. PYP EXHIBITION

Learning in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) offers numerous formal and informal opportunities for students to showcase how they have developed and applied their knowledge, conceptual understandings, skills, and learner profile attributes through their inquiries. A key example is the PYP exhibition.

The PYP exhibition is a culmination of the learners’ primary years journey (Pre-nursery - Grade 6). The Grade 6 students take the time to explore a chosen issue or opportunity, conducting their investigation both independently and collaboratively with peers, under the guidance of a mentor. This process allows students to demonstrate their responsibility for their own learning and their ability to take meaningful action as they plan, present, and assess their work.

The exhibition is a powerful expression of student agency, as well as the collective agency of the learning community that has supported them throughout the PYP. The entire community plays a role in the exhibition, celebrating and encouraging the development of internationally-minded students who are equipped to make a positive impact in their own lives and in the lives of others.
