WHAT IS IB PYP ?
MGC New Life Christian Academy became an authorized IB PYP school on April 12, 2024.
The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a curriculum framework for elementary-aged learners (3 - 12 years old). It focuses on the development of the learners as caring and active participants in a lifelong journey of learning, anchored on the premise that learners have voice, choice, and ownership.
The PYP offers an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary curriculum framework that incorporates educational practices that respond to the challenges and opportunities facing young learners in our rapidly changing world.
By learning through inquiry and taking ownership of their learning, PYP students develop knowledge, skills, conceptual understandings, and the attributes of the IB Learner Profile to make a difference in their lives, communities, and the world.

pyp learners: take ownership of their learning
For our youngest learners, every experience is a learning opportunity. It is best learned when children can engage with everything around them. As such, MGCNLCA takes a child's natural curiosity and tendency to play and helps grow it into a lifelong learning system.
Younger learners (Early Years) are taught using the play-based approach, which recognizes that children learn best through active engagement and exploration in a meaningful and enjoyable context. The learners are also encouraged to ask questions about what they are doing. As children progress through their years, there is a gradual shift, and they are presented with concepts and processes for asking questions. They engage with their senses, make connections, and reflect on their learnings and experiences.
Learning for older learners (Lower Primary Years and Upper Primary Years) is inquiry-based. They are encouraged to wonder about the world around them, allowing their curiosity to guide their inquiry. As a result, they become responsible citizens who take appropriate action to bring about a positive change in their local, national, and global community.
Although MGCNLCA promotes international mindedness, we remain deeply rooted in our local culture, values, and language, firmly grounded in biblical truths and principles.

3. APPROACHES TO LEARNING SKILLS
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Approaches to Learning (ATL) are a set of skills and strategies aimed at fostering self-regulated, lifelong learners. These skills are designed to be seamlessly integrated into the curriculum and applied across all subject areas. These skills are anchored on the belief that learning how to learn is fundamental to a learner's education. These 5 skills help support student agency, encouraging the learners to see their learning as an active and dynamic process.
